BACKGROUND: Wiki

PERSONALITY:
No matter how good and kind someone is, there are always flaws, even if they actively try to keep them away. Which is exactly what Robert does. As he tells Bella the first time he changes, ever since he was a child he wanted to do the right thing, and did everything in his power to be good. He's always a perfectly polite gentleman, soft spoken, the very model of a good doctor, and puts his own life and well-being in danger to help others without a second thought - like trying to lift a truck off a child or getting into a fight with thugs mugging a stranger. He truly wants to help people - the first scene shows him giving out free shots to village children with his adoptive father, who was no doubt a great influence in that desire. Though a rich family, the Najarans seem to put stock in looking out for their community and those less fortunate, and are well liked. Although trying so hard to be good has made him rather naive and shy as well. The prospect of a kiss puts him under enough stress to very nearly turn into Hyde, and the same woman easily strings him along to make him fall in love with and even propose marriage to her, although she's really a spy tracking him.

He admires and thinks of that adoptive family entirely as his own, they are his father, mother and brother without question and is in fact extremely reluctant to travel to London or to find out anything about his birth family, at first. He doesn't care to, because to him, there may as well be no other family. On some level it would even be a betrayal to his real family, the ones who raised him. The first time he ever properly gives way to Hyde is when he hears of their deaths and utterly destroys his hotel room in his despair and rage. This is also what prompts him to remain in London, when he had been planning to return to Ceylon immediately. With his family gone, he says, there's suddenly nothing for him there. Lucky for him, his little brother Ravi, at least, made it out alive and found his way to London where he's captured by MI0 to persuade Robert to work with them. After all the threats they give him, setting Ravi free is the one thing that finally makes him agree.
"I would have swam all the way to Ceylon if I'd known you were alive," he tells him, and it's hardly an exaggeration. The people he meets and works with in London, too, quickly become a sort of second family to him, and though initially reserved and even a little standoffish, he soon opens up to them and is more free than anyone seems to have anticipated.

Although Robert is so entrenched in his ideals, he's no stranger to lying. Mostly about the truth of 'his disease', where he sees it all as white lies, but really he puts people in danger in more ways than one by not being forthright about it. He thinks it's for their own good, but it's really for his. He has quite the temper himself, even without Hyde's assistance, too. It's where his age sometimes shows, while he acts like A Real Adult, he's really rather young, and is prone to moodiness. He'll get into a huff and whine that he's useless and can't do any good, why even bother with anything if that's the case. Really he can be quite impulsive, and while not outright violent, he can be well near it at times when friends and family are threatened in some way. Likewise even Hyde has a deep investment in the people around him. The people Jekyll cares about are still dear to him although for the most part he acts as if he doesn't care at all. In particular, when a list of people he cares about who could be harmed are rattled off, he acts entirely nonchalant about it, until it comes to Bella and he's finally pushed over the edge into rage.

But Hyde always has Jekyll's best interests in mind, even if they gravitate to different love interests and priorities. There aren't two separate people by any means at all, and it isn't a case of good vs evil, either. While the story of his grandfather is easily taken that way, whether that's really the case or not, the line is much less distinct with Robert. Their general demeanours are different, the way they carry themselves and even pitch of their voices, but even so there's still times it's difficult to tell whether it's Jekyll or Hyde at the moment. And often, it really doesn't matter. Hyde doesn't even think to call himself anything other than Robert Jekyll until everyone else starts just calling him Hyde because of his grandfather. Jekyll's the only one who seems to want any distinction between them because he sees Hyde as something evil. But all Hyde really is, is base. He's instinct and base desires, only a few steps above an animal. Not only does he often run around like a dog on the hunt, sniffing the air and licking things, growling, the origins of the Jekyll family trace back to a main branch who shapeshift into Shucks, and the Hydes are a deviation of that. He just indulges himself, whether that's lazing about, fighting, sex, drinking, anything really. But he isn't the outright criminal or needlessly cruel as Edward Hyde was, his desires aren't anything terrible, no murder or sexual assault. He might not exactly obey the law all (or even most of) the time, but he doesn't run totally rampant with utter disregard. Even with fighting he tends to try to give people an out, and the only people he harms too terribly or tries to kill are monsters.
"There are real monsters out there, that's what we need to be fighting," he tells Garson. He acts as if he's the only one he cares about, but even MI0 agents see that he has good intentions at heart. Quite often when he appears, it's to help Jekyll out of a jam - even an interpersonal one. He won't even follow his twin sister Olala's advice and use her method to remain Hyde always, even advising her to try being Jekyll once in a while.

If you thought Jekyll was a loser, then get a load of Hyde. He willingly makes himself Bella's watchdog and errand boy, and seems to live to rattle off one-liners and sarcastic comments or witty rejoinders and puns. He's flashy, charismatic and takes what he wants, but always comes back to being terribly animated. To the point that several other characters imitate and make fun of him. It rolls right off his back, if anything it seems to amuse him. He's at once quick to anger and aggressive, but also very relaxed - zero to one hundred in one second flat, really. But that's the essence of Hyde, a lack of any filter, he says and does exactly what he's thinking and feeling. Although as much as he cares about the people around him, and is glad to interact with them, when it comes to getting something done, he just gallivants about on his own. He doesn't work well with others, he can't exactly make compromises and just gets frustrated with them immediately when forced to work as a team. Likewise, he's incredibly mistrusting of Tenebrae and MI0 both, no matter what promises and incentives they want to give him. Actually, it's for that very reason, how could he possibly trust that, and it only infuriates him that they would try. It's a matter of pride.

ABILITIES: Robert is a professional medical doctor and scientist, albeit in the 1930s. One would assume he probably speaks some of the local dialect(s) of Ceylon (Sri Lanka) having lived there all his life with a native family - that being Sinhalese or Tamil. If not then why the hell not. You live there, dickhead. Basically he's quite smart, but he doesn't have any abilities.
On the other hand, as Hyde, he does. There's something in Hyde's blood that gives him super strength and healing abilities. But only as Hyde. If he hasn't fully healed, and switches back to Jekyll, it will all stop. His blood can also be used to heal others by injecting them with it - but again only if taken from Hyde. His strength is basically like a superhero, he can lift a truck, he can climb a building, he's fast and resilient. The 'main branch' of his family shapeshift into a Shuck, and Hyde is closely related to that ability, only in human form. Which means he also has heightened senses like a dog, always sniffing about for things. If there's any one thing to take away from this app it's that he just is a dog, alright. It also seems that it takes a lot of energy out of him, as he's always complaining about needing to rest after running around as Hyde.

'Monocaine' is a magical drug that up to a certain point can make him stronger, but too much would kill him.
He uses a drug as-needed in pill or spray form (taken orally) that helps to keep him as Jekyll, which is comprised mainly of it, and there are syringe-like bullets specially made by Tenebrae with similar effects, also comprised of monocaine. They come in three colours, the green will make him Jekyll, red Hyde, and black would kill not only him but just about any creature. It also tends to knock him out for what seems to be at least an hour if not more, when injected this way, likely for being such a large, concentrated dose, as opposed to the slow burn of an oral supplement or spray. In a similar vein, if Hyde were to feed off his own blood much like a vampire (specifically, using some sort of supernatural, special stick with a pair of needles in it, we really don't know exactly how it works okay, it seems to somehow be connected to the user and feeds the blood's life force into them), he would become stronger and remain Hyde almost indefinitely, just as his sister does. Normally, Robert turns into Hyde when he's under stress.

There's a lot of "you're the only one who can kill the big bad" but we don't actually really know what that means thanks to cancellation and probably isn't relevant anyway being as it's specifically in reference to one person.

WRITING SAMPLES.
NETWORK SAMPLE:
Hello. My name is Robert Jekyll, and I'm a licenced medical doctor. I think it's important to be able to help your neighbour, and what better way than to be able to look to their health. As such you can contact me through this or in room 113 at the inn. I do house calls.

[It would also be nice to earn a little extra so he can move to a nicer place. It doesn't have to be fancy, but this might as well be poverty....]

I can offer another service as well, more difficult to pin down exactly what to call it, though it does have its uses. Tracking I suppose would be the best way to put it. Like a personal detective? If you need to find something, if it exists here, I'm sure I can find it. For example if anyone has disappeared or you've lost some belonging.

[He might not know how well Hyde will take that, considering it's really offering his service, but he seems to like doing it well enough for Bella, anyway.]

Well, something like that. There's the possibility, anyway.
